San Francisco, then Tokyo, then Buenos Aires and a European city
A four-year American bachelor's degree with no campus.
Who it suits, cost, deadlines
A four-year American bachelor's degree with no campus. Every student moves city roughly each year: the first year in San Francisco building the analytical core, the second in Tokyo, then Buenos Aires and a European rotation, finishing with a capstone project. All teaching happens in small live seminars on Minerva's own platform, never in lectures. It is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission, so the degree is a regular US regional-accredited bachelor's. Minerva notes that locations are subject to change as it reviews global conditions.
- Who it suits
Someone who found the IB's breadth and its emphasis on how you know things genuinely interesting rather than an obstacle, who is comfortable being uprooted every year, and who does not need a campus, a sports club or a student bar to feel at home. It is a poor fit if you want a lab, a workshop or a studio.
- Cost
Tuition USD 31,300 a year. Total cost of attendance for 2027/28 is USD 59,600, covering tuition, programme fees, residential services, student services and estimated living costs. Need-based aid is available regardless of citizenship or residency, including scholarships, low-interest loans and work-study of up to about USD 5,000 a year — but Minerva states plainly that it does not offer full-ride packages and every student contributes an expected family contribution. It does not participate in US federal financial aid.
- Deadlines
Minerva runs its own application cycle rather than the Common Application. Deadlines are not confirmed here — check minerva.edu from September 2026.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
A small honours liberal arts and sciences college jointly run by the University of Amsterdam and the Vrije Universiteit, awarding a three-year BA or BSc taught entirely in English.
Who it suits, cost, deadlines
A small honours liberal arts and sciences college jointly run by the University of Amsterdam and the Vrije Universiteit, awarding a three-year BA or BSc taught entirely in English. You build your own curriculum across sciences, social sciences and humanities rather than entering a fixed programme, and everyone lives on the residential campus in Amsterdam East — a room is guaranteed for all three years.
- Who it suits
An IB student who wants to keep studying several things at once and is not ready to commit to one discipline, and who wants that inside a normal EU tuition structure rather than at American prices. Selective, small, intense, and very international.
- Cost
2026/27 tuition: EUR 5,580 a year for EU/EEA students, EUR 20,430 for non-EU/EEA. The campus carries a one-off fee of EUR 675 covering three years of housing for first-year students; rent is paid to the housing association DUWO at roughly EUR 305–465 a month after rent benefit, about EUR 4,392 a year for a standard single room.
- Deadlines
AUC applies directly rather than only through Studielink and has earlier deadlines than mainstream Dutch programmes. Exact 2027 dates were not readable from the official page — check auc.nl from autumn 2026.
Middelburg, Zeeland, Netherlands
Utrecht University's liberal arts and sciences college, in a small historic town in the far south-west of the Netherlands.
Who it suits, cost, deadlines
Utrecht University's liberal arts and sciences college, in a small historic town in the far south-west of the Netherlands. A three-year English-taught BA or BSc, built around small classes and a self-designed curriculum, with the whole college living in student houses across the town centre rather than on a campus.
- Who it suits
The same profile as AUC, but if you would rather be in a walkable Dutch town of 48,000 people than in Amsterdam. Noticeably less expensive to live in, noticeably quieter, and correspondingly more dependent on the college itself for your social life.
- Deadlines
UCR applies directly and interviews candidates. Deadlines and fees were not readable from the official page — contact info@ucr.nl or check ucr.nl from autumn 2026.

Who it suits, cost, deadlines
The Netherlands has around eight of these honours liberal arts colleges attached to its research universities, AUC and UCR among them: University College Utrecht, Leiden University College The Hague (which specialises in global challenges and international justice), University College Maastricht, University College Groningen, Erasmus University College in Rotterdam and ATLAS at Twente, which is a technology-focused version of the same idea. All teach in English, all award a three-year BA or BSc, all are selective and interview-based, and all charge EU tuition.
- Who it suits
Anyone who liked the IB's structure and wants three more years of it. They are close to an American liberal arts college, at European prices, and the application process — essay, interview, motivation — rewards IB students who can explain why they want something.
- Cost
EU/EEA tuition is generally the Dutch statutory fee plus an institutional supplement; AUC's 2026/27 EU rate of EUR 5,580 is indicative of the level. Individual colleges' fees are not confirmed here.
- Deadlines
All of them have earlier deadlines than mainstream Dutch degrees, typically in the winter or early spring, with interviews following. Build the list in autumn 2026.
Across the EU and associated countries
An EU initiative in which universities form permanent transnational alliances and build shared degrees, joint curricula and automatic mobility between the partners.
Who it suits, cost, deadlines
An EU initiative in which universities form permanent transnational alliances and build shared degrees, joint curricula and automatic mobility between the partners. As of the European Commission's published figures there are 73 alliances covering almost 650 higher education institutions of all types. Some alliances now run genuine joint bachelor's degrees in which you study at two or three member universities and receive a jointly issued qualification, and the EU is piloting a 'European degree' label for exactly this.
- Who it suits
A student who wants to study in more than one European country without arranging it themselves as an Erasmus exchange bolted onto a national degree. Alliances such as CIVIS, Una Europa, EUTOPIA, 4EU+ and Aurora are the ones to look at first.
- Cost
Varies by the degree-awarding institution. Where the coordinating university is in a tuition-free or low-fee country, EU citizens pay that country's rate.
- Deadlines
There is no central application. You apply to the coordinating university's programme on its own calendar. Search the alliance's website for 'joint bachelor' rather than the Commission's page, which is a policy overview.
Consortia of European universities
Erasmus Mundus Joint Programmes are the EU's joint degrees, with full scholarships covering tuition, travel and a monthly allowance.
Who it suits, cost, deadlines
Erasmus Mundus Joint Programmes are the EU's joint degrees, with full scholarships covering tuition, travel and a monthly allowance. The important correction for a school-leaver is that the EACEA catalogue is explicitly master's level: it states that master's-level students from all over the world can apply, and the programmes listed are Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters. There is no Erasmus Mundus joint bachelor's catalogue for a 2027 school-leaver to apply to.
- Who it suits
Nobody applying straight from the IB — but everybody planning three or four years ahead. If you finish a bachelor's in 2030 or 2031, this is a route into a master's in Europe where a scholarship can cover tuition, travel and living costs, and it is worth knowing it exists now so you structure your bachelor's with it in mind.
- Cost
Scholarships normally cover tuition in full plus travel, installation and a monthly living allowance. Amounts vary by programme and are not confirmed here.
- Deadlines
Applications to individual consortia typically run from October to January for the following September. Not relevant for autumn 2027 entry from gymnasium.

Who it suits, cost, deadlines
Sciences Po's undergraduate College is a three-year Bachelor of Arts in the humanities and social sciences, taught on one of seven French campuses, each with a regional specialisation: Dijon for central and eastern Europe, Le Havre for Asia-Pacific, Menton for the Mediterranean and Middle East, Nancy for the Franco-German partnership, Poitiers for Latin America, Reims for Africa and North America, and Paris with no regional focus. The third year is compulsorily spent abroad at one of 480 partner universities, sometimes with an internship attached. Alongside this, Sciences Po runs eleven dual bachelor's degrees with universities around the world — two years in France and two at the partner, graduating with both degrees — and has recently added duals with ESCP Business School and with the Columbia Climate School on ecological transition and climate risks. Eighteen dual-degree programmes exist in total.
- Who it suits
An IB student with strong essay writing and a real interest in politics, economics, history or international affairs, who wants a structured four-year route into two universities on two continents. The dual degrees are extremely competitive and applications are made to Sciences Po, not to the partner.
- Cost
Sciences Po charges income-scaled tuition for EU students, which for lower-income families can be zero. Partner-university fees apply for the years abroad and can be substantial at the American partners. These figures are not confirmed here.
- Deadlines
Sciences Po runs a single undergraduate application with a deadline in the winter, and the dual degrees are chosen inside that application. Check the admissions page from autumn 2026.
Lausanne and Passugg, Switzerland, and Singapore

Who it suits, cost, deadlines
Founded in Lausanne in 1893, and part of the Swiss universities of applied sciences system — so its bachelor's is a recognised Swiss degree, not a private certificate. The programme combines a practical preparatory phase with a business curriculum and long industry internships, and its graduates go into hotels, luxury brands, finance and consulting rather than only into hospitality.
- Who it suits
Someone who wants a business education with an operational core and is genuinely interested in service industries, events, luxury or food and beverage. It is not a soft option: the preparatory phase is demanding and the culture is formal.

Who it suits, cost, deadlines
A four-year Bachelor in International Hospitality Business — structured as one plus three years, worth 180 ECTS or 120 US credits — with the option to transfer between the Swiss and London campuses mid-degree. Three separate periods of work: a 24-week internship in the experiential year, a management practice internship in year two, and an on-the-job placement in the final semester. Glion reports that 98% of its students have at least one job offer on graduation.
- Who it suits
The same profile as EHL, but if you want part of the degree in London and value the placement structure. Also worth comparing against a conventional business degree, since the ECTS weight is the same but a large share of it is spent in industry.
- Deadlines
Intakes confirmed for Spring 2027 and Fall 2027. Tuition is published in separate PDF fee schedules for the Swiss and London campuses, which could not be read here — request them from admissions.

Who it suits, cost, deadlines
The third of the Swiss hospitality schools, with campuses in an Alpine resort and on the Costa del Sol, and a bachelor's in global hospitality management built around the same combination of business teaching and long paid internships. Les Roches has leaned harder than its rivals into entrepreneurship and hospitality technology.
- Who it suits
Someone drawn to the Swiss hospitality model who wants a Spanish campus option, or who is specifically interested in the start-up and technology side of the industry rather than classical hotel operations.
- Deadlines
Multiple intakes a year with rolling admission. Fees are not confirmed here — request the fee schedule from admissions.
Svendborg and Frederikshavn in Denmark; Gothenburg, Kalmar and Chalmers in Sweden; Southampton and Warsash in the UK
A route almost invisible from a gymnasium, where the bachelor's degree comes with a licence attached.
Who it suits, cost, deadlines
A route almost invisible from a gymnasium, where the bachelor's degree comes with a licence attached. Maritime academies train ship's officers and marine engineers: SIMAC in Svendborg and MARTEC in Frederikshavn in Denmark, Chalmers and Linnaeus University in Sweden, Warsash Maritime School in Southampton. Degrees combine classroom study with long periods of sea time on commercial vessels, and the qualification is a Certificate of Competency recognised internationally under the STCW convention as well as an academic degree.
- Who it suits
Someone who wants a degree that leads directly to a licensed profession, who is comfortable with long periods away from home, and who wants to work at sea for some years before coming ashore into shipping, offshore wind, surveying or port management. Denmark, home to Maersk, is a good place to hold this qualification.
- Cost
SIMAC and MARTEC are Danish public institutions, so tuition is free for EU/EEA citizens, and Danish SU applies if you can claim it — Danish citizens, and EU/EEA citizens with equal status (for example through a parent who works in Denmark, or five years living here). Swedish and British academies charge according to their national systems. Individual figures are not confirmed here.
- Deadlines
Danish maritime academies recruit through the standard Danish admission system (optagelse.dk) with the usual 15 March and 5 July deadlines. Sea-time placements are arranged through the academy and shipping companies.
Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, the UK and the Gulf
Two different routes that get confused with each other.
Who it suits, cost, deadlines
Two different routes that get confused with each other. The first is integrated ATPL flight training at a flight academy — roughly 18 to 24 months, ending with a frozen Airline Transport Pilot Licence, no academic degree, and a cost that is normally self-financed or bank-financed. The second is a university aviation degree: Lund University's pilot programme in Sweden, aviation management and air transport degrees in the Netherlands and the UK, and aerospace engineering degrees, some of which bundle flight training. Emirates and Etihad also run cadet programmes in the Gulf.
- Who it suits
Anyone certain about flying should look hard at the difference between the two. A licence alone makes you employable as a pilot and nothing else; a degree with a licence gives you a fallback and a route into aviation management, safety or engineering. Medical certification (EASA Class 1) is the gate — get it before you spend anything.
- Cost
Integrated ATPL training in Europe is typically a large sum — high five figures in euros or more — self-financed. University aviation degrees follow ordinary national tuition rules. None of these figures is confirmed here; ask each school for a quote.
- Deadlines
Flight academies admit on a rolling basis subject to a medical and aptitude assessment. University aviation degrees follow ordinary national deadlines.
Across Denmark — around 70 schools
A folk high school is a residential school where you live on campus and take classes in whatever genuinely interests you.
Who it suits, cost, deadlines
A folk high school is a residential school where you live on campus and take classes in whatever genuinely interests you. There are no exams and no entrance requirements, and roughly 250 subjects are offered across about 70 schools — music, film, design, sport, outdoor life, politics, writing, journalism. Several schools run lines taught in English or aimed specifically at an international intake, so it is also a way to meet people from outside Denmark before you leave it. A stay typically lasts a few months rather than a full year.
- Who it suits
Almost everyone, and this is the part foreign admissions officers do not understand: in Denmark, where you go to school, taking a sabbatår is the norm, not a sign of drift. Most students leaving Danish gymnasiums take one or two years between gymnasium and university, and the system is built to expect it. For the destinations on this site, a sabbatår has a specific advantage — several Asian universities run March or April intakes, and several Western universities in Asia have deadlines that fall before your IB results. A gap year converts that from a problem into a choice.
- Cost
Charged per week, with the Danish state covering a substantial share for students who qualify — ask the school whether your citizenship gets the subsidised price. Prices were not readable from the association's site — see the prices page at danishfolkhighschools.com.
- Deadlines
Apply directly to the school. Popular schools and lines fill early, so apply in the winter for an autumn start.

Who it suits, cost, deadlines
Its funding model is unusual. NYUAD is a full New York University campus awarding the NYU degree, with study-away semesters across NYU's global network. Every financial aid grant it offers to non-Emirati citizens is need-based; its only named merit scholarship is restricted to Emirati nationals. It also offers personal support awards on top of tuition aid.
- Who it suits
A very strong IB student from a family that could not otherwise pay international fees. Admission is in the low single-digit percentages, so it is a reach for anyone — but if it works, the money works too.
- Cost
2026-27: tuition USD 68,574, housing USD 6,000, food USD 5,800. Direct costs USD 84,520 including books and mandatory health insurance; total cost of attendance USD 90,434. NYUAD says annual increases should be expected. Confirm with admissions whether it is need-blind for international applicants — that is not confirmed here.

Over 60 English-taught undergraduate programmes awarding dual XJTLU and University of Liverpool degrees, across engineering, science, business, humanities, filmmaking and design.
Who it suits, cost, deadlines
Over 60 English-taught undergraduate programmes awarding dual XJTLU and University of Liverpool degrees, across engineering, science, business, humanities, filmmaking and design. It also runs 2+2 and 2+1+1 routes in which you spend the later years of the degree in Liverpool, which is a genuinely unusual way to get a British degree with two years of China attached.
- Who it suits
Someone who wants China without Mandarin as a prerequisite, and who wants a large choice of subjects rather than the narrow liberal-arts menu at Duke Kunshan and NYU Shanghai. The 2+2 route is also a hedge: you can start in China and finish in the UK.
