Mathematics of Modern Technologies

The degree centres on statistics and computer science for big data. You begin with calculus, discrete mathematics, linear algebra and C++, then move to probability, algorithms, databases, numerical methods, actuarial mathematics and neural networks. Core modules include machine learning, big data and data modelling. Teaching mixes laboratory work, problem-based learning and software such as Matlab and Python; the final year brings a complex project, an eight-week internship and a two-stage thesis. Electives include cryptography, image processing, quantum computing and financial engineering. Graduates become business analysts, software engineers or programmers, or go on to master's study in data science or AI.
