What it is

You begin with mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering drawing, thermodynamics, mechanics and materials science, then CAD, machine dynamics, manufacturing engineering and structural integrity. From year two you choose Biomechanics, Mechanical Systems Design, Robotics Engineering or Thermal Systems Engineering. Learning uses laboratories with GUNT systems, CNC machines, Festo robotic kits and 3D prototyping, software such as SolidWorks and Autodesk Inventor, and real engineering problems solved through modelling and optimisation. A mandatory work placement and final project fall in year four, with routes for deeper specialisation, innovation development or extended practice. Graduates work as design engineers, production technologists or biomechanical engineers.
