What it is
Core courses cover written composition, literature, linguistics, TESOL methods, translation and interpretation, expository writing, language research methods and ethics, set within a liberal arts frame that includes world civilizations. Workshops and writing assignments are complemented by practicum courses such as teaching in summer camps or schools, editorial work or submitting literary work for publication. In year four you write a thesis with a faculty mentor and defend it in public. Tracks lean toward English teaching, translation and literary studies, and graduates work in teaching, translation, marketing and administration or continue to graduate study.
What you need
- Completing the IB or European Baccalaureate replaces the English test. Admission scores your last three school years (40%), English (30%) and an interview (30%). No subject requirements.
