What it is
The first year builds foundations in mathematics and programming, the second deepens them with optimisation, statistical inference and machine learning, and the third brings a bachelor's thesis, a seminar and optional advanced courses. Lectures are paired with project work, so you practise building data-driven models that make predictions. The degree draws on Aalto's research links with the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence and on collaboration with companies and research institutes. Graduates work as data scientists, engineers or technology entrepreneurs, and the master's route leads to computer science or mathematics and operations research.
