What it is

You study thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, nuclear power engineering, power plant engineering and energy economics, covering how electricity and heat are produced from solar, wind, thermal and nuclear sources. Mathematics, physics, design, control systems and programming support the core, and minors include electronics and sustainability science. Teaching uses lectures, extensive laboratory work, company visits and projects, and ends with a bachelor's thesis. Nuclear safety studies are offered only at this university in Finland. Graduates work as development and design engineers, reactor engineers and nuclear safety specialists, or continue to a master's in energy conversion, nuclear engineering or sustainable energy systems.
