How to use the globe
Size says how much is here, not how good a place is.14 institutions with a resolved location. How it works
Polish law makes full-time study in Polish free at public universities for EU citizens.
In full
English-taught programmes may charge anyone, and each university decides what an EU citizen pays. Wroclaw Tech and Poznan Tech charge EU citizens nothing for full-time English-taught study, and the University of Warsaw and Warsaw Tech waive the fee on some programmes. AGH, the Jagiellonian and SGH charge EU citizens the same as any student from abroad. Your IB Diploma is recognised automatically by Polish law with no nostrification. The thing that will decide your application is not your total points but which subjects you took at Higher Level, because Polish universities convert HL and SL very differently.
Is it for you?
Why it might suit you
An IB Diploma is recognised by operation of law in Poland under article 93 of the Education System Act, with no nostrification and no extra procedure.
All 5 reasons
- An IB Diploma is recognised by operation of law in Poland under article 93 of the Education System Act, with no nostrification and no extra procedure.
- Several universities charge EU citizens nothing for English-taught study: every full-time programme at Wroclaw Tech and Poznan Tech, and some at the University of Warsaw and Warsaw Tech. Non-EU students pay at all of them.
- Full-time Polish-language study at a public university is free for you by statute - if you are willing to learn Polish, tuition disappears entirely.
- Where English-taught engineering does charge EU citizens, it is affordable: AGH runs from 2,500 euros a year for Space Engineering to 6,000 for Computer Science.
- English-taught medicine at Gdansk is around 14,800 euros a year for a six-year MD.
What to watch for
If you study medicine here and then want to work in Denmark or another EU country, the diploma alone is not enough.
All 8 things to watch
- If you study medicine here and then want to work in Denmark or another EU country, the diploma alone is not enough. Poland's entry in Annex V of the EU professional qualifications directive requires the LEK state exam certificate, and the Polish medical chamber says it can only certify full qualifications if you also have a recognised postgraduate internship. See the medicine-abroad page before you commit.
- Many 'for foreigners' admissions pages describe the fee-paying route for non-EU students. As an EU citizen, look for the university's EU price or its free-of-charge route, and upload proof of citizenship when you register. The law exempts EU citizens 'and their family members living in Poland'. Universities read that differently, so if you do not yet live in Poland, ask whether the exemption covers you.
- HL versus SL matters more than your total. At the Medical University of Gdansk a grade 7 at Standard Level scores 60 points while a 6 at Higher Level scores 86. Poznan University of Medical Sciences requires Biology, Physics or Chemistry at HL.
- If you are an EU citizen without Polish citizenship, Poland's maintenance grant and student loan are closed to you unless you work in Poland (article 324(3) of the Higher Education Act), so your funding has to come from elsewhere — Danish SU if you can claim it, or your own country's student finance. Article 324 governs foreigners only: if you hold Polish citizenship, both are open to you on the ordinary terms.
- Every foreign candidate at Wroclaw Tech must sit a compulsory online maths-with-logic entrance exam, whatever your IB Maths grade. Whether a Polish citizen with a foreign IB counts as a foreign candidate is not established here: ask Wroclaw Tech.
- There is no central application portal. Each university runs its own IRK system with its own deadline, fee and exam.
- Only Poznan University of Medical Sciences has published a working autumn-2027 calendar. Warsaw and the Jagiellonian have adopted their 2027/28 Senate resolutions, which fix outer bounds - Warsaw may not start before 2 February 2027 and must finish by 30 September, the Jagiellonian must be open by 30 June and closed by 1 October - but in both cases the day-by-day timetable comes later, in a Rector's ordinance expected in January or February 2027. AGH and Wroclaw Tech have published nothing at all for 2027/28.
- If you have Polish ancestry but not Polish citizenship, Karta Polaka is worth having: it opens the maintenance grant and the student loan without the work condition, which EU citizenship alone does not (article 324(3) point 2).
The shape of the system
Poland divides its higher education into university-type institutions (uczelnia akademicka), which do research and can award doctorates, and non-university institutions (uczelnia zawodowa), which teach practically oriented bachelor's programmes.
The 5 routes in full
Poland divides its higher education into university-type institutions (uczelnia akademicka), which do research and can award doctorates, and non-university institutions (uczelnia zawodowa), which teach practically oriented bachelor's programmes. Medical universities and art academies are separate public institutions, and there is a large private (niepubliczna) sector.

Getting in
How your IB is read
Yes, an IB Diploma is accepted.
Subjects, levels and conversion
- Accepted
Yes
- Subjects and levels
The University of Warsaw maps Standard Level onto the Polish poziom podstawowy and Higher Level onto poziom rozszerzony. For languages, Ab initio and B SL count as SL, B HL counts as HL, and Language A at either level (and Literature and Performance) counts as bilingual level, which is then converted to extended level by multiplying by 4/3 and capping at 100 per cent. Mathematical Studies SL counts as SL. The Jagiellonian applies a multiplier of 1/2 to Standard Level subjects.
- Score conversion
University of Warsaw (Senate resolution 107 of 21 May 2025, for 2026/27 admissions) converts IB grades to Polish matura percentages: 7 = 100 per cent, 6 = 90, 5 = 75, 4 = 60, 3 = 45, 2 = 30. The Jagiellonian instead multiplies the IB grade by 100/7, so a 7 is 100 per cent and a 5 about 71.4, then halves Standard Level results. The Medical University of Gdansk publishes a two-column table: at HL a 7 scores 100, 6 scores 86, 5 scores 71, 4 scores 57, 3 scores 43 and 2 scores 29; at SL the same grades score 60, 51, 43, 34, 28 and 17.
- The legal basis is article 93 of the Education System Act of 7 September 1991. The Ministry of Education states that IB diplomas issued by the International Baccalaureate Organisation in Geneva confirm secondary education in Poland, are recognised by operation of law without any additional procedure, and require no nostrification.
- NAWA confirms that a Director's information is not required for IB and EB certificates, so there is no recognition procedure to go through.
- One caveat from the Ministry page: automatic recognition of secondary education does not itself settle eligibility to apply for higher education, and applicants are referred to NAWA. NAWA settles it: an IB certificate needs no individual recognition statement and is automatically recognised for applying to first-cycle and long-cycle studies (NAWA, as of 23 September 2026).
- The University of Warsaw asks IB candidates to supply a document from the school or education authorities stating that the diploma entitles the holder to university study in the country of issue.
- No statutory minimum IB point total exists. Thresholds are set programme by programme in each university's admission resolution.
- Poznan University of Medical Sciences requires IB candidates to have taken Biology, Physics or Chemistry at Higher Level for medicine.
- The practical lesson: choose your HL subjects in the first year of the Diploma to match the programme you want, because that decision outweighs your total score.

How and when you apply
Apply directly to each university.
The 8 steps
Decide first whether you are going the English-taught route or are willing to learn Polish. Full-time Polish-language study at a public university is free to you by law, and that is the biggest single financial lever available.
Read each university's fees as an EU citizen, not as a generic foreigner. Wroclaw Tech and Poznan Tech charge EU citizens nothing for full-time English-taught study, and the University of Warsaw and Warsaw Tech waive the fee on some programmes. If a page is headed 'fee-paying' or 'for foreigners', check whether it is the non-EU route.
Register on each university's own IRK portal. There is no shared application, so budget for several application fees of 85-150 PLN each, plus 600 PLN if you sit the Poznan medical exam.
Work out how your HL and SL grades convert at each target university. The three published tables - Warsaw, Jagiellonian and Gdansk - give very different answers.
Book any entrance exam. Medical exams at Gdansk, Poznan and the Jagiellonian are online; Wroclaw Tech's compulsory maths exam is online through its ePortal.
Upload your IB diploma when results arrive. The University of Warsaw explicitly allows IB candidates to register first and add results by mid-July.
Once admitted, apply for a dormitory place immediately - the Jagiellonian allocates on a rolling basis as places become available, with no guarantee.
After you arrive, register your stay at the voivodeship office if you will be in Poland more than three months. This is a legal obligation under article 20 of the 2006 EU movement act.
Selection is set per programme by each university's admission resolution, usually by converting your IB grades to Polish matura percentages and ranking candidates. Medicine is different: the Jagiellonian School of Medicine in English admits solely on the entrance examination result, Poznan requires a mandatory 60-question natural sciences test plus a 20-40 minute oral, and Gdansk sets a written biology and chemistry paper plus a roughly 20-minute Zoom interview. Wroclaw Tech requires every foreign candidate to sit an online mathematics-with-logic exam of about ten open tasks in 90 minutes. Several Jagiellonian English-taught programmes involve an interview while others have none.

AGH's deadlines page prints "from 1 June till 9 July, 10 am CEST" with no year, under the heading "the academic year 2026/2027", so these are 2026 days. Registration and the fee share one cut-off, and it is 10:00 CEST rather than the end of the day. Read the table carefully: its columns are headed first, second and third cycle, and those are bachelor, master and doctoral study rather than successive admission rounds, so there is no later bachelor round to fall back on.

Published as 10:00-11:30 CEST. The maths entrance exam is compulsory for every foreign candidate with no IB exemption. Wroclaw Tech's own standing notice says the exact date is fixed only in April of the application year, so the 2027 date will be late to appear.

2026 entry - 2027 dates not published as of September 2026Jagiellonian University - medical certificate deadline, Collegium Medicum programmes (first round)
Hard deadline
Details
After this the door closes.
Published in Polish only, as a row of the admission timetable: "termin doręczenia zaświadczenia o braku przeciwwskazań do podjęcia studiów wydanego przez lekarza medycyny pracy", with "studia prowadzone na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim – Collegium Medicum – 28 sierpnia". You are sent for the occupational-medicine examination when you enrol, and the certificate has to be back with the faculty by this day. The 2027/28 Senate resolution keeps the requirement but leaves the date to a Rector's ordinance not yet issued, so read 28 August as the pattern rather than as the 2027 date.

The same Polish timetable row as the Collegium Medicum deadline, but for "pozostałe studia – 7 września" - every other programme that requires the certificate. The timetable says nothing about what happens if you miss it; that sits in the Senate resolution annex, which for 2027/28 says only that failing to produce the certificate makes it impossible to begin studies.

2026 entry - 2027 dates not published as of September 2026Jagiellonian University - second round closes
Hard deadline
Details
After this the door closes.
The second round runs only if the first did not fill the admission cap, and on many programmes it does not run at all. Its medical-certificate deadline is 5 October, not the August and September dates that apply to the first round, and it has its own entry.

2026 entry - 2027 dates not published as of September 2026AGH University of Krakow - enrolment window for candidates without a Polish maturity certificate
Hard deadline
Details
After this the door closes.
This is the row an IB candidate actually needs. AGH splits enrolment by certificate type: holders of a Polish świadectwo dojrzałości enrol in late July, while "candidates without Polish maturity certificates" enrol "from 16 September till 30 September, on working days" - ten weeks later, and working days only.
-
1 October 2026
2026 entry - 2027 dates not published as of September 2026AGH University of Krakow - studies start
Details
From AGH's published academic-year schedule, which gives the 2026/27 winter semester as 1 October to 28 February. That page has no 2027/28 schedule; it says only that 13 to 30 September 2027 is set aside for closing 2026/27 and opening 2027/28, which implies but does not state a 1 October 2027 start.
-
5 October 2026
2026 entry - 2027 dates not published as of September 2026Jagiellonian University - medical certificate deadline, second round
Hard deadline
Details
After this the door closes.
The second-round timetable carries a single date for the certificate, "5 października", with no split between Collegium Medicum and other programmes. Note that it falls after the academic year has started.
-
2 February 2027
2027 entryUniversity of Warsaw - 2027/28 admissions may not begin before this date
Details
A genuine 2027 date, and one of the few in Poland. Senate resolution 278 of 20 May 2026, which governs 2027/28 admissions, states: "Postępowanie rekrutacyjne rozpoczyna się nie wcześniej niż 2 lutego 2027 r. i trwa nie dłużej niż do dnia 30 września 2027 r." It is an outer bound on the whole university, not the opening of any particular round; the round dates come later, in a Rector's ordinance. Resolution 315 of 24 June 2026 amends only the foreign-qualification recognition clause, so these dates are unchanged.

2027 entryPoznan University of Medical Sciences - entrance exam sittings in Poznan

The last falls after the 20 July application deadline, so it is only usable if your application is already in. The application calendar gives only "Mar - Aug 2027" and links onward; the individual days are on the university's entrance-examination page.

2027 entryJagiellonian University - last day to hand in documents promised at enrolment
Hard deadline
Details
After this the door closes.
A genuine 2027 date with a stated penalty, from annex 1 to Senate resolution 62/V/2026: a candidate who undertook at enrolment to supply a missing document has until 24 September 2027, with the date of arrival at the faculty counting rather than the date of posting, and failure produces an administrative decision that blocks starting the course. This matters to an IB candidate whose apostilled diploma may be slow to arrive.
-
30 September 2027
2027 entryUniversity of Warsaw - 2027/28 admissions must conclude by this date
Details
The closing half of the same sentence in Senate resolution 278: admissions last "nie dłużej niż do dnia 30 września 2027 r." Like the 2 February opening bound, it is an outer limit on the whole university, not the closing date of any round. Resolution 315 of 24 June 2026 changes only the foreign-qualification recognition clause, not this date. The same day is the deadline for asking a recruitment committee to correct your result after a successful matura appeal.
-
1 October 2027
2027 entryJagiellonian University - 2027/28 admissions must be closed by this date
Details

2027 entryUniversity of Warsaw - IB and EB candidates: last day to enter results in the IRK account, summer round
Hard deadline
Details
After this the door closes.
This is the extension written for IB candidates specifically, and the 2027 date does not exist yet. The Polish IB and EB page says a candidate who does not yet have results enters only subjects and levels in the Wykształcenie tab, then completes them "do dnia 14 lipca 2026 (w turze wrześniowej – do 14 września 2026)". Both are explicitly 2026 days, on a page written for the 2026/27 cycle, and both have already passed. Senate resolution 278 puts the detailed timetable in a Rector's ordinance; the 2026/27 equivalent was issued on 20 January 2026, so expect the 2027 dates around January 2027 and recheck the IB and EB page then. Read in Polish - no English version of this page exists, and the English site does not mention the extension at all.

2027 entryUniversity of Warsaw - IB and EB candidates: last day to enter results in the IRK account, September round
Hard deadline
Details
After this the door closes.
The second chance, for the August-September round. The 2026/27 precedent was 14 September 2026, in the same Polish sentence as the July date, and that round's registration closed on 10 September with fees due 11 September - so the results extension really is an extension and not a restatement. No 2027 date is published. If your IB result is reissued or an enquiry upon results changes a grade, this is the round that saves you.

2027 entryJagiellonian University - 2027/28 detailed admission timetable
Details
The rules exist and carry two real 2027 dates, shown as separate entries; the day-by-day timetable does not. Annex 1 to Senate resolution 62/V/2026 of 27 May 2026 says the detailed harmonogram, the fee rules and the list of required documents are all set by a Rector's ordinance. The 2026/27 equivalent was Zarządzenie nr 17 of 23 February 2026, and the university expects the updated IRK catalogue "najprawdopodobniej początkiem 2027 roku", so February 2027 is the realistic moment.

2027 entryAGH University of Krakow - 2027/28 recruitment schedule
Details
Nothing for 2027/28 is published. AGH's deadlines page still carries only the 2026/27 calendar, and its programme list and point thresholds still rest on Senate resolution 76/2025, adopted in November 2025 for 2026/27 entry. On that pattern the 2027/28 resolution and calendar are due around November 2026. The 2026 dates are shown above as a guide.

Date not published
2027 entryPoznan University of Medical Sciences - Fall 2027 start of classes
Details
Two PUMS pages disagree and neither is usable as printed. The application calendar's "Start of classes" card says "13 Sep 2026" - a 2027 calendar carrying a 2026 day - while the medicine admission requirements page, under a "Fall 2027 entry" heading, says "Start of classes: September 6, 2027". The second cannot be right either, because the same calendar page puts orientation at 6-12 September 2027, and PUMS runs classes after orientation, not during it: for 2026/27 it published orientation 7-13 September and classes 14 September 2026. The reading the evidence supports is Monday 13 September 2027 - orientation Monday to Sunday, classes the following Monday - but that string appears on no PUMS page, so no date is given here. Neither page carries a last-updated stamp, so there is no way to tell which figure is the stale one. This one needs an e-mail to the admissions office.

Details
Published as "admissions campaigns for undergraduate programmes start in April or May and may last up to six months". This is a national generalisation and is contradicted by the much earlier medical deadlines. Trust the individual university.
Language
Substantial and spread across many universities. Wroclaw Tech alone states 33 programmes fully taught in English across bachelor's and master's.
Proving your English, and the rest
- English-taught bachelors
Substantial and spread across many universities. Wroclaw Tech alone states 33 programmes fully taught in English across bachelor's and master's. The University of Warsaw prices at least 11 English-taught bachelor and long-cycle programmes, AGH lists 7 English-taught bachelor's, and the Jagiellonian lists 7 plus a joint bachelor plus medicine and dentistry in English. No reliable national total is published.
- Proving your English
An IB Diploma taught and examined in English is normally enough. The University of Warsaw's admission resolution states explicitly that an IB diploma proves English at B2 or above where English was the language of instruction and examination, so no IELTS is needed. The Jagiellonian lists the International Baccalaureate Diploma as an accepted document confirming B2 English. Where a test is required instead: University of Warsaw accepts IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72, PTE Academic 59 or Cambridge B2 First and above; the Jagiellonian School of Medicine wants IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 87; Poznan University of Medical Sciences sets a higher bar: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 94, PTE Academic 60 or Cambridge Advanced.
- Local language needed?
Not for English-taught programmes
- The Jagiellonian School of Medicine in English publishes a Denmark-specific rule: a Danish school English grade of 7 satisfies its English requirement, alongside Norway 4, Sweden C, Finland 5 and Iceland 8.
- Poznan University of Medical Sciences does not list the IB diploma as English proof, so budget for an IELTS sitting if you target PUMS.
- If you take the free Polish-taught route, the University of Warsaw accepts an IB or EB diploma showing a result in Polish as proof of Polish.
- Medicine taught in English still means clinical work with Polish-speaking patients, so Polish is taught alongside.
Money and life
Money
Free for full-time Polish-language study at a public university, by statute.
Fees, living costs and funding
- Tuition, EU/EEA
Free for full-time Polish-language study at a public university, by statute. For English-taught programmes each university decides, in one of three ways. Free for EU citizens: every full-time English-taught programme at Wroclaw Tech and at Poznan Tech; at the University of Warsaw American Studies, English Studies and International Studies in Philosophy; at Warsaw Tech Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering and Power Engineering. An EU price lower than the non-EU price: Warsaw Tech's other programmes, from 3,500 PLN a semester for Environmental Engineering to 7,800 PLN for Computer Science; University of Wroclaw, for example Business and Administration 2,400 EUR a year against 3,900 EUR; University of Warsaw Psychology (long-cycle) 25,200 PLN, about 5,800 EUR. The same fee for every student, Poles included: University of Warsaw Archaeology 2,300 EUR, Business and Management 4,000 EUR, European Politics and Economics, International Relations, Political Science and Social and Public Policy 4,300 EUR each, Finance, International Investment and Accounting 4,200 EUR; SGH 2,500 EUR a semester; Adam Mickiewicz University 1,900-4,000 PLN a semester. The same fee as non-EU students, and possibly more than a Pole pays: AGH 2026/27 per year Space Engineering 2,500 EUR, Geology of Natural Resources and Mechanical Engineering 3,450 EUR, Mechatronic Engineering 3,600 EUR, Computer Physics 4,000 EUR, Computer Science for Embedded Systems 5,000 EUR, Computer Science 6,000 EUR; the Jagiellonian, per programme. English-taught medicine charges everyone the same: Medical University of Gdansk 64,200 PLN a year, about 14,770 EUR, for the six-year MD (2026/27); Poznan University of Medical Sciences 71,000 PLN a year in years 1-2 and 85,750 PLN in years 3-6, about 16,340 and 19,730 EUR, totalling 485,000 PLN or about 111,600 EUR. (2026/27)
- Tuition, non-EU
At the University of Warsaw the gap is real and large: American Studies 5,500 EUR, English Studies 2,200 EUR and International Studies in Philosophy 1,500 EUR for non-EU students against free for EU citizens, and Psychology 27,600 PLN against 25,200. Wroclaw Tech's published price list is for non-EU students only; EU citizens pay nothing. Its 2026/27 figures per year: Management 17,200 PLN (about 3,960 EUR), Electronic and Computer Engineering 17,600 PLN, Applied Computer Science 17,800 PLN, Mechanical Engineering 18,600 PLN, Medical Informatics 25,400 PLN (about 5,840 EUR). Poznan Tech is the same: its 1,850-2,460 EUR first-semester fee is for non-EU students. At AGH, the Medical University of Gdansk and Poznan University of Medical Sciences the published schedules print one price for every foreign student, so EU citizenship buys no discount on those English-taught programmes. The national portal quotes an average of about 2,000 EUR a year for first, second and long-cycle studies for fee-paying foreigners, 2,000-6,000 EUR across public and private institutions, and 8,000-12,000 EUR for MBAs. (2026/27)
- Application fee
University of Warsaw 85 PLN, or 100 PLN if the programme has a written or oral exam or interview. Jagiellonian 85 PLN without an exam and 100 PLN with one for 2026/27; its School of Medicine in English lists 100 PLN marked as to be confirmed. Wroclaw Tech 100 PLN, or 150 PLN for Architecture. Poznan University of Medical Sciences 85 PLN processing plus a 600 PLN exam and interview fee. Medical University of Gdansk 100 PLN registration. At the National Bank of Poland reference rate of 22 September 2026 (1 EUR = 4.3463 PLN), 85 PLN is about 20 EUR and 600 PLN about 138 EUR.
- Living costs
Roughly 450-800 EUR a month all in, for a student living in a dormitory in Warsaw or Krakow. The official national portal says 1,500-2,000 PLN a month, which it converts to 330-430 EUR, but that page states no year and its dormitory figure of 400-600 PLN is contradicted by the Jagiellonian's own 2026/27 dormitory rates of 670-1,270 PLN. At the September 2026 exchange rate, 1,500-2,000 PLN is 345-460 EUR. (Portal figures undated and apparently stale; dormitory figures from 2026/27 rates)
- Why it varies: article 79(1) of the Higher Education Act lets a public university charge for study in a foreign language, and article 324(2) exempts EU/EEA/Swiss citizens only from the fee for full-time study in Polish. Any EU discount on English-taught study is the university's own decision, written in its Rector's fee ordinance.
- The official portal's component figures, re-converted at the September 2026 rate: groceries 700-900 PLN (about 160-207 EUR), public transport 50-60 PLN, entertainment 150-200 PLN, health insurance 40-60 PLN, phone and internet 80-100 PLN.
- Poznan University of Medical Sciences, whose page is dated 2026/27, puts a student month at 800-1,600 US dollars, with accommodation 200-850, food 150-300, a 25 dollar monthly transport pass and 20 dollars of insurance.
- Gdansk charges a separate Orientation Week fee of 3,100 PLN, reduced to 2,050 PLN for candidates from Poland and premedical course graduates. Its medical tuition is paid in instalments due 15 October and 15 February.
- Poznan asks for a 4,800 PLN down payment on the acceptance e-mail, with year one payable in four instalments.
- All euro conversions here use the National Bank of Poland reference rate of 22 September 2026: 1 EUR = 4.3463 PLN.
- No 2027/28 tuition figures were published anywhere as of September 2026.
Funding you could actually get
- The strongest financial move is structural: full-time study in Polish at a public university is free to an EU citizen under article 324(2)(1) of the Higher Education Act, and the University of Warsaw accepts an IB diploma showing a Polish result as proof of Polish.
- The second strongest is to choose a university that does not charge EU citizens for English-taught study. Wroclaw Tech and Poznan Tech charge nothing for full-time programmes, and the University of Warsaw and Warsaw Tech waive the fee on some.
- Be clear about what a non-Polish EU citizen cannot get. Article 324(3) restricts the Polish maintenance grant (stypendium socjalne) and the Polish student loan (kredyt studencki) to EU citizens who are workers, self-employed, retain a right of residence on that basis, or hold permanent residence, so an EU student who simply arrives to study cannot claim either. A Karta Polaka holder can, without the work condition (article 324(3) point 2), and a Polish citizen is outside article 324 altogether.
- A rector can waive or reduce fees by administrative decision under article 324(1), and the minister or the NAWA director can do so for NAWA scholarship holders. It is worth asking.
- NAWA runs three incoming-student programmes - the gen. Anders Programme, Poland My First Choice, and the Banach Scholarship Programme - but their eligibility rules are not confirmed here. The gen. Anders programme is by name and design aimed at people of Polish descent and Banach at developing countries, so do not assume you qualify for any of them without reading the call document.
- Erasmus+, CEEPUS and the Visegrad Scholarship Programme are listed on the national portal as options once you are enrolled.
- Whether the rector's merit scholarship (stypendium rektora) is open to EU citizens is not settled here. Article 324(3) restricts only the maintenance grant and the loan, which implies the merit scholarship is not restricted, but no source states it outright.
- Danish SU can follow you here if you can claim it (Danish citizens, or EU/EEA citizens with equal status under EU rules) and meet the ties-to-Denmark requirement. The programme must be SU-approved, and outside the Nordics SU is capped at four years (48 klip). If you cannot claim SU, look first at your own country's student finance: several EU/EEA systems fund a full degree in another country.
Living there
For the first three months you need do nothing beyond holding a valid travel or identity document, under article 15 of the 2006 act on entry and residence of EU citizens.
Residency, work, housing and healthcare
- Residency
For the first three months you need do nothing beyond holding a valid travel or identity document, under article 15 of the 2006 act on entry and residence of EU citizens. Beyond three months you have a right of residence as a student under article 16(3) provided you have sufficient funds not to become a burden on social assistance and you have health insurance - and the article expressly accepts entitlement under EU social security coordination, which is the EHIC route, so your EHIC (the blue card) satisfies it. Article 20(1) then obliges you to register your residence, which you do at the voivodeship office for where you live. The national portal says EU students should apply for registration within 90 days of arrival and are issued a cost-free certificate of registration. The detailed procedure, forms and processing time are not confirmed here; ask the voivodeship office. - Working
As an EU citizen you need no work permit. Article 16(1) of the 2006 act on entry and residence of EU citizens treats being a worker or self-employed person in Poland as an independent ground of residence, with no funds or insurance test attached. An explicit official page stating that EU students need no permit, and whether any hour limits apply to students, is not confirmed here. Working also matters for money reasons beyond the wage: taking up work is what unlocks the Polish maintenance grant and student loan, which are otherwise closed to an EU citizen without Polish citizenship. - Housing
Jagiellonian University dormitory rates for 2026/27 are published and there is no higher rate for foreign students: a place in a multi-person room is 670 PLN a month (about 154 EUR) in the standard houses and 850 PLN in Bursa Raclawicka; a single room is 870 or 1,070 PLN; sole occupancy of a double is 1,200 or 1,225 PLN; a studio-type single at Bursa Raclawicka is 1,270 PLN (about 292 EUR). Places are allocated on a rolling basis as they become available, so a room is not guaranteed - apply the moment you are offered one. Poznan University of Medical Sciences charges 820-1,500 PLN a month depending on room and building, and estimates private renting at up to four times the dormitory cost. Public universities are expressly permitted to charge for dormitories and canteens under article 79(2)(6) of the Higher Education Act, separately from tuition. University of Warsaw dormitory rates are not confirmed here. Sources: https://akademiki.uj.edu.pl/ds/oplaty and https://pums.edu.pl/admissions/student-accommodation/
- Healthcare
As an EU citizen you use your European Health Insurance Card. The national portal states that a valid passport, student identity card and a valid EHIC entitle the holder to medical care free of charge in Poland. Polish residence law also expressly accepts entitlement under EU coordination rules as satisfying the health insurance condition for a student's right of residence. Two cautions: an EHIC is designed for medically necessary treatment during a temporary stay rather than as long-term cover for a resident student, and Polish universities commonly expect either voluntary National Health Fund (NFZ) insurance or private cover. Non-EU students sign a voluntary NFZ agreement costing about 15 EUR a month. The NFZ premium and enrolment route for an EU student are not confirmed here; ask your university. Source: https://study.gov.pl/health-insurance
If you are Polish
If you hold Polish citizenship, article 324 of the Higher Education Act — the source of this page's rules for foreigners — does not apply to you: Polish-taught study is free, and the maintenance grant and student loan are open to you on the ordinary terms.
What else changes
Your IB is still a foreign qualification, so the IB entry rules here still apply, and whether you count as a foreign candidate at universities with a separate foreigners' recruitment, such as Wroclaw Tech, is not established here: ask them.
