What it is
The first two years combine calculus, linear algebra and statistics with Python programming, algorithms, machine learning, data management and the ethics of AI, plus microeconomics and quantitative methods. In years three and four you follow one of three tracks: Economics, Politics and Policy, or Social Cognitive Science. Classes rely on discussion and collaboration, with data science projects on real-world data from business or academia, an option to study at a partner university in year three, and thesis research. Graduates head for startups, fintech, government bodies, research institutions and policy consultancies, or for master's study in data science, economics, politics or finance.
What you need
- A clear record in maths is expected; IB Maths HL 5 or SL 6 is named as a competitive reference point, and IB English at 5 covers the English test.
Requirements in full
Every IB applicant at Central European University
IB English at 5 or above (HL or SL) exempts you from the English test. No IB points or subject minimum: admission is holistic, and Data Science and Society asks for a clear maths record.
How places are decided
- Holistic review with a sustained maths record from your transcripts; a maths test score (IB Maths HL 5 or SL 6 is competitive) is encouraged, not required.
