What it is
The programme pairs a theoretical basis with hands-on practice and includes an internship at a multinational or local company or a non-profit organisation. It trains bioengineers who apply biology in industry and applied science. Degrees of this kind typically cover chemistry, biology, biochemistry, microbiology and genetics, then bioprocess and engineering subjects, with substantial laboratory work and a thesis. Graduates usually work in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, food and chemical industries or continue to a master's.
