What it is
You learn economic theory, micro and macro, on a base of mathematics, statistics, econometrics and machine learning, then use those tools on real questions such as crime, health, climate and economic outcomes. Teaching relies on group work, business cases, discussion and testimonials from practitioners, and a coding course trains you to solve problems with data. From the second semester of year two you choose between Economic Sciences, which leans on mathematical modelling and cognitive science, and Economic and Data Sciences, which centres on algorithms and machine learning. Graduates go into economic or management consulting, finance, public and non-governmental institutions and research, or on to quantitative master's programmes.
What you need
- Full IB Diploma, 24+ points with 12 at HL, TOK, EE and CAS passed; no subjects required. An IB in English meets the English rule. Predicted grades are not used.
