What it is
Your main subject, taught in individual and group lessons with technique work, sits at the centre, next to ensemble playing, music theory linked to current topics, and subjects that broaden your range. There are several project weeks a year, co-creation with dance, circus and visual arts students, and performances from concert halls to public spaces. You follow either the Classical route, with a contemporary approach and room to switch creative roles, or Jazz & Creative Music, built on improvisation, your own sound and specialised ensembles; Tilburg jazz venue PARADOX offers students concerts and jam sessions. Graduates perform on stages at home and abroad, work across art forms, teach, or move into arts management and policy, or a master.

- Audition and theory test: upload by 1 March 2027 (auditions 15–19 March) or 1 May 2027 (24–28 May); online interview if you live outside NL or Belgium.

Every IB applicant at Fontys
The IB Diploma is named as giving access. Many programmes also want satisfactory maths grades, engineering also physics or chemistry, with no IB grade set. An IB Diploma usually exempts you from an English test.
How places are decided
- Upload audition material by 1 Mar or 1 May 2027; if selected, an online interview (outside NL/Belgium) or live audition, plus an online theory test.
