What it is
The programme covers seven domains of biology, from evolution, brain function and plant genetics to ecology, the effects of climate change on biodiversity, disease diagnosis and the chemistry of DNA and RNA. Teaching is interactive and team-based, with laboratory work in modern research facilities and internships at three research institutes (RIBES, RIMLS and DCN). After the foundation year you specialise and design your own profile, choosing courses from both biology and medical biology. Graduates work as researchers, teachers, consultants, policymakers or managers in profit and non-profit organisations.

The IB Diploma is assessed individually against the Dutch VWO. English A SL/HL at 4+ or English B HL at 6+ covers English.
How places are decided
- No longer numerus fixus: everyone who meets the 2027-28 requirements and applies on time gets a place. Apply early in Studielink to join the housing lottery.
