What it is
The first year covers mathematics for geologists, chemistry, physical geology, mineralogy and petrology, physics in geology, statistics and geostatistics, GIS, environmental assessment and computational geoscience. Fieldwork is a large part of the course, with 90 hours of field courses in year one and 60 in year two, plus lab classes, projects, an internship and a seminar leading to a diploma project. In the final years you choose pathways such as geoenergy resources, mining hydrogeology, geomaterials, remote sensing, renewables and the energy transition, or computational deposit analysis. Graduates enter the raw materials industry, mineral exploration, mining companies, research, consultancy and public administration.
