What it is
After the first term you pick an English or an American track. The English track covers English literature, British and American political culture, academic writing and spoken argument, and the linguistics of phonology and syntax. The American track concentrates on American history, culture and literature and the American variety of English, with an emphasis on critical thinking and research. Teaching is by lectures and seminars, and the degree does not give a teaching qualification. Graduates can continue to a master's in English or American studies or work in journalism, tourism, government bodies, diplomacy or private-school English teaching.
What you need
- The IB Diploma counts as your secondary certificate (ELTE wants it equivalent to the Hungarian matriculation). English B2, or an English-medium school certificate; economics degrees encourage IB results.
